Frozen Paintballs – High Speed Camera

I made this video to show, in slow motion, what frozen paintballs look like when shot. Since I am not a paintball player, I have no experience of whether frozen paintballs are just an urban myth or if it is a problem within the sport. Most non-players have heard about “frozen paintballs”. The “fill” or goop inside the paintballs is a food-grade substance called propylene glycol and is used in variety of things from electronic cigarettes to antifreeze for industrial chilling systems. It is resistant to freezing hard, but will gel up into a thicker state- depending on the water to ppg ratio. It’s probably unlikely “frozen” paintballs are widely used in the sport, but hopefully after seeing this video and how inaccurate the paintballs are, fewer people will even attempt trying it out. – Music courtesy of Royalty-Free Music Kevin MacLeod
