What is a good First digital camera for a 10 y/o child that is also durable?
I have a very eager child who loves taking pictures with moms camera, who is ready for their very own first camera.
I’m looking for a digital camera (for an 10 year old child), that is going to be -somewhat- durable and/or drop proof. It doesn’t have to be a "kids camera", just built tough enough to handle the not so delicate touch an eager child can have.
I’m not interested in the Vtech, or Fisher Price "cameras". I’m looking for something that doesn’t look like it was designed for a 3 year old. Nor do I want something that’s a flimsy plastic "camera" that is going to fall apart 5 minutes out of the box.
The idea of the Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP, or the Cannon PowerShot D10 which list that they’re super tough, and waterproof (or water resistant) is great, but they are over kill with features, and price for a starting off child photographer.
I ideally want to spend about or less, for a nice -simple- camera that will satisfy the needs of a child who loves taking pictures, but can withstand them at the same time.
Any help and/or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you~

My two grandchildren have Polaroid P&S digicams that I got on sale for about $50 ea almost two years ago. They have lasted very well, but the kids are supervised when taking them for a spin. They do not carry them everywhere they go. (In fact, neither child is that "into" photography, somewhat do my dismay.) But they have survived a trip or two to school, and to a football game and camp out or two. For $50, you are not going to get tough and durable.
Olympus has a "drop proof" camera that is also water friendly. It is significantly over your budget.
The P&S digicams are simply not build very well, especially at the under $200 pricepoint.
